Privacy
Privacy policy.
What we hold about you depends on whether you sign in. If you only browse, it is close to nothing. If you create an account, we keep what that account needs to work. This page covers both.

Who runs this site
saigoninsider.guide ("we", "us") is the operator and the data controller for the personal data described here. We are an independent guide. No venue pays to be listed or ranked. For any privacy question or request, email [email protected].
When you just browse
We count visits with Plausible Analytics, which sets no cookies and stores no personal data. It records the page, the referring site, your approximate country, and your device and browser type.
We also record anonymous interaction events, such as opening a venue or tapping directions, so we know which parts of the guide get used. They carry a random session ID that lives in your browser's session storage and disappears when you close the tab. They are not linked to your name or email.
We also use Google Analytics, but only if you allow it by accepting cookies in the banner we show on your first visit. If you allow it, Google sets cookies to count your visits and which pages you view. If you say no, it sets no cookies and sends no personal data. Ad features stay off either way. To change your answer, clear this site's data in your browser and the banner will ask again.
When you create an account
You sign in with Google or with your email and a password. With Google, Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with us, and we store them. With email, we store your name and email address, and your password only as a one-way hash, so nobody here can read it.
Your account can also hold:
- the places you save
- the lists you make, and whether each one is public or private
- your language and the interests you pick
A list you mark public can be seen by anyone, along with the name on your account. Private lists are visible only to you.
We keep you signed in with a login token that lasts 30 days, and we delete it when you sign out or delete your account.
We use this to run your account and show you what you saved. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who else processes it
- Google: sign-in. See policies.google.com/privacy.
- Cloudflare: delivery, security and image hosting. Its network sees your IP address when you load a page. See cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
- Plausible Analytics: cookieless visit counts, hosted in the EU. See plausible.io/privacy.
Everything else lives on our own servers. Some of these providers are in the United States, so your data may be processed there.
Venue pages link out to maps, booking sites and venues' own websites. Their privacy terms apply once you are there.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account in your profile. When you do, we remove your name, email address and photo, and end every login session. Your lists are deleted with it. Your saved places are deleted too, and each one only adds to an anonymous count of how many times that venue has been saved, with nothing that links it back to you. We keep only an empty record with an internal ID and dates, so a deleted account cannot come back to life by accident.
Your rights
You can see, correct or delete what we hold on you, and object to how we use it. Most of this you can do from your profile. For anything else, email [email protected] and we will answer within 30 days.
Children
The guide is not meant for anyone under 16. If you think a child has made an account, email us and we will remove it.
Changes
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and the date at the top. We will not quietly start collecting more.
